Originally from Rochester, NY, I lived in the Westchester, County/Lower Hudson Valley region from 1980 , soaking up the rich history, culture and musical influences of this area. Child of the '60's and '70's as I am, I cut my musical teeth with the works of Dylan, The Stones, Neil Young, the Beatles, Van Morrison, CCR, The Band, Leonard Cohen, Led Zeppelin and others. More recently, I've been studying the works of the old pre-war blues masters such as Blind Willie McTell, Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis, Lightnin' Hopkins, Robert Johnson.
In late 2018 I moved back to Rochester, which has its own rich musical history and lore.
In both locales, I've had the good fortune to have had some guitar teachers who have helped me hone my musical chops as well as talented musical friends with whom I've played who continue to keep me enthused about playing and writing.
Here's a press kit blurb I use:
Phil is an acoustic, blues-based guitarist who has been performing at clubs and coffeehouses in the region for years. He writes original songs but also covers artists from the 1930's through the folk/rock revival of the '60's and beyond. Suitable forthe roadhouse or the coffeehouse, influences range from Big Bill Broonzy to Hoagy Carmichael, Piedmont finger-picking of Rev. Gary Davis and Blind Willie McTell to the Delta style slide guitar of Booker White and Robert Johnson. His CD "The Whirligig of Time" is available on iTunes and Amazon.com. Phil's second CD, "Somewhere South of the Moon," was released in the Spring of 2017.
